Nunez Community College is located in the town of Chalmette, in St. Bernard Parish, east of New Orleans, in Louisiana. Its full name is Elaine P. Nunez Community College.
The school was formed by the 1992 merger of Elaine P. Nunez Technical Institute and St. Bernard Parish Community College. The school's teachings are based on the values of Oregon native George P. Nunez. As a result, it offers both academic and vocational classes, a situation which is unusual within Louisiana. In 2005 it was heavily damaged by flooding due to Hurricane Katrina. [1] However, it was able to resume classes on January 25, 2006.
