My name is Robert Merlin Evenson, and I know more about the book of Revelation than anyone who has walked the face of the earth, including the author. The secret of Revelation 13:18 (the beast with the name/number 666) is unlocked in "The Ouzo Prophecy". The letters to the seven churches (continents) are God's unified message to mankind. If the main thought of each letter is connected to the next, the message is revealed: "It is not enough to merely recognize and hate evil: fear not the tribulation of Satan; fight evil wherever you find it, and do not allow it to flourish; contain evil and overcome it with perseverance and commitment to good."

An interesting eschatological phenomenon is involved relative to the modern english alphabet and the assignment of positional numerical values to the letters thereof. If the value 6 is assigned to letter A, then 12 to letter B, etc. in multiples of 6 up to a value of 156 for the letter Z then a total value of 666 can be derived from certain modern words and some scriptural references consistent with the names of or characteristics of The Beast as depicted in Rev. 13,18. By adding up the letter values we have the following examples: 666 = MARK OF BEAST; 666 = BEHEMOTH IMAGE; 666 = IMAGE OF SATAN; 666 = DECEIVER LIAR; 666 = ENEMY OF MAN; 666 = DEVIL DRAGON; 666 = SON OF SIN; 666 = SATAN OUT; 666 = SATAN DOWN; 666 = FUNDAMENTAL; 666 = SANTA CLAUS; 666 = COMPUTER; 666 = CALCULATE NAME.
When you consider that the modern english language and alphabet (as such) did not exist when the Book Of Revelations was written and that the chances of some relevant scriptural references (after interpretation) adding up to 666 in accordance with Rev 13,18, are so astronomical, then the phenomenon is nothing less than astounding.
Some of these references are obvious characterizations and conform to traditional Christian concepts. SATAN OUT and SATAN DOWN could refer to the description of the war in heaven wherein Satan is cast out and down. FUNDAMENTAL could be a veiled reference to fundamentalism. SANTA CLAUS could refer to materialism - commercialism (SANTA is an anagram for Satan). COMPUTER and CALCULATE NAME could be indications of a developing eschatological reality.
It is probable that many names when analysed with these letter values will add up to 666, but it is important to remember that the other characterizations of The Beast (dragon, Satan, antichrist) must also fit if an attempt is made to calculate the name of The Beast. The very fact that we now have the means (computer) to attempt such a feat is ominous.

The meaning of 666 has nothing to do with gematria, but I can tell you this: the Greek form of Jesus (Iesous) adds up to 888 in classical Greek gematria. This spelling of Jesus adds up to 88 in English gematria simplex (A-1 to Z-26) and provides a mystical connection with our past. Christ adds up to 77, mankind to 66 and Satan to 55. Mankind is positioned between Christ and Satan in Ouzo combinations (repetitions of the same digit). For more information, please see "The Ouzo Prophecy".
