Number Ten Ox

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Number Ten Ox is a character from Barry Hughart's Master Li series, set in a version of ancient China that never was.

Number Ten Ox lives in the village of Ku-fu. His nickname derives from the fact that he was a tenth child, and he is strong as an ox. His surname is Lu and his personal name is Yu. He is not to be confused with the eminent author of the Classic of Tea.

He has fallen in love at least three times, with a girl of his village who died, named Scented Hairpin, with Lotus Cloud (who turns out to be Weaver Girl), and with Grief of Dawn.

As a child he joined the local boys society, the Seven Bloody Bandits of the Dragon Bones Cave.
