Did you see my new proposal on the Northern Ireland talk page, this is it could have a look and see what you think I have added it to the options.--padraig 17:08, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Granny clause
Apparantly the granny clause was removed at some time without anyone knowing (although I have some vague memory of people wondering how it would affect the national football team). In any case, I don't think it really matters to her - aside from the occasional jab from the rest of us. Where it did cause a problem was on a holiday to the states last year - there, my sister and her husband found themselves in a spot of hot water trying to explain why two Irish people (compounded by them being a US citizen and his wife also) were taking a British child across international borders. It's a funny old life. --sony-youthpléigh 11:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Sony. Now, that's interesting. I think it really was slipped in there without anyone knowing. (Those editing the Wiki Irish Nationality Law page certainly don't seem to be aware of it!) The Irish Foreign Affairs Dept. website (http://foreignaffairs.gov.ie/home/index.aspx?id=267) is interesting on this issue -- it doesn't come out and say you can claim citizenship through a grandparent born in Ireland, but it does list what would be required if you were to do so!!??? I don't get it, really...what else is new? :-) Were either of her parents considered Irish citizens at the time she was born? If so, the site *is* clear that this can be a route to registering for Irish citizenship: "A person born abroad to a parent who, although not born in Ireland, was otherwise an Irish citizen at the time of the person’s birth, can become an Irish citizen by applying for Foreign Births Registration." Not that I'm taking some overly keen interest in your niece's Irishness, mind you. :-) But I'm just curious about these sorts of legal thingies and how they actually play out in reality. [edit] Lough Neagh in the British Isles or not.
Over at the article on Lough Neagh you said: "My vote would be for leaving it as it was before: "LN is by far the largest lake in the UK and in the island of Ireland as a whole." Nuclare 02:30, 2 October 2007 (UTC). Sadly, you're probably in a minority in this respect (not least because your preference is a mixture of political and geographic terms). For the meantime, the article states "it is by far the largest lake in Great Britain and Ireland". Would you care to check what was stated in this section and consider whether you wish to be added/add yourself to the table there? PRtalk 16:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ireland
My proposal to change the name of the article is a serious one. GoodDay 21:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] British Isles References
This is the address. [1]. From reading the edit history I gather that previously the contributors weren't signing their contributions and were undoing it when a bot signed the contributions. You'll see that I haven't tried to do that - because I don't know how. I think I have the only signed contributions to the page. Wotapalaver (talk) 12:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think when the pge was started the editors wanted it "clean" looking. I just don't know how to keep a sig off the page. It doesn't really matter. Wotapalaver (talk) 06:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] British Isles Mediation
Nuclare,
My name is Iamzork, and I am the mediator for the Mediation Cabal case 2008-06-06 British Isles. I would like to strongly encourage you to take place in this informal, non-official mediation, and remind you that if you accept, you are free to disregard any results of it - I am an editor like you and have no "real" power whatsoever. Mediation will continue among other editors regardless of your consent, and you may choose to participate or not. Also, feel free to remove yourself from the list of "involved parties" on the case page if you wish. I and all of the other involved editors respect your decision, whatever it may be. Thank you for your cooperation. --Iamzork (talk) 17:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
I apologize. I misread the page and clicked on you userpage instead of TharkunColl's. Sorry for the confusion. --Iamzork (talk) 17:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
