The size of an atomic nucleus is of the order of 10 − 15 metres.

The nucleus has approximately a constant density and therefore the nuclear radius R can be approximated by the following formula,
R = r0A1 / 3
where, A = Atomic mass number [ # of protons (Z) plus # of neutrons (N) ] and r0 = 1.25 fm = 1.25 10 − 15 m (r0 varies by .2 fm depending on the nuclei) . Literature: Krane, Kenneth S., Introductory Nuclear Physics, Wiley, 1987.
