[edit] Rationale

This map shows the ballistic missile warning coverage provided by PAVE PAWS (blue) and BMEWS (red). Both systems forward their data to Cheyenne Mountain Air Station in Colorado.

[edit] Previous work

Based on Image:BlankMap-World.png made by User:Vardion and adapted by User:E Pluribus Anthony for Wikipedia. Meant to improve on a map by Fylingdales CND.[1]

[edit] Calculations

Assumes that:

  • Ranges for BMEWS and PAVE PAWS is 3000 nautical miles. Some sources, however, give the range as 2800 nautical miles. May need to correct this.
  • The earth is a perfect sphere with a radius of 3443.9 nautical miles

Only the southerly extent of the coverage is really accurate. The northerly coverage of Beale reaches to about 88 degrees, Cape Cod just above that. All of the others reach well over the North Pole and this is not best shown on a Robinson projection.
