NTLMSSP

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NTLMSSP (NT LAN Manager Security Support Provider) is a Microsoft Windows service which uses a binary message format to authenticate clients that use the NTLM authentication protocol to log on or access network resources. The NTLM Security Support Provider service provides security to RPC programs that use transports other than named pipes. Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) relies on this service. This service has been removed from Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 in favor of the newer Kerberos authentication protocol. [1]

The NTLMSSP challenge-response protocol, its message formats, and implementation details have been fully documented in Microsoft's Open Protocol Specification.[2]
