[edit] Asperger's Syndrome
Hello there, I'm just wondering: what you are referring to when you refer to AS as a mental hindrance, and have you have been professionally diagnosed? --Muna (talk) 14:30, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi. What I mean when I refer to the fact that AS is a mental hindrance is that I don't see it as a disability where you are cursed with it for the rest of your life, it is more of an obstacle in my way of acheiving "normalcy." I see it in a way that if one has enough dedication, motivation, perserverence and drive, they can overcome the obstacles that are coupled with AS and in doing so, overcome AS entirely. I would say that I'm about 20 years away from overcoming it. Now I was diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum since age 4. I was officially diagnosed with AS in my early teens. スミス ナサニアル (talk) 17:53, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see. I differ on your opinion of AS being a hindrance, myself being diagnosed shortly before my teens (though it was initially believed to be merely behavioural problems). While I have endeavoured to learn about aspects of communications which I have deficiencies in, I do not see my goal as being "normalcy." Instead, it is just part of my quest for knowledge and understanding, and my study of it can be seen to be on par and also supplmentary to my study of languages - a field I seem to have a natural aptitude in. I don't see AS as something I must overcome or rid myself of: to do so would remove an important part of my life. --Muna (talk) 00:47, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
