Nritya Creations

Nritya Creations is an award-winning dance group founded by Meena Basu Nag. This group has a creative dance style because it blends Indian Classical dance types such as Bharat Natyam, Oddissi, Manipuri and Kathak with western contemporary forms such as jazz and ballet and other cultural dance forms. This style of dance is innovative and contemporary yet has the inherent grammar of Classical Indian dance. Graceful body movements , formations and poses blended with vibrant classical steps and modern dance movements got them FIRST PLACE in the 2007 Naya Andaz Competition. Nritya Creations has won trophies including best choreography, best dance and best costume at notable dance competitions and shows in the USA including:

The group’s performances have been aired on SONY TV, Zee TV, and TV Asia and have been recognized by members of the Bollywood community. Nritya Creations was honored by the United Nations for contributing proceeds to the Tsunami and Sept 11 Relief efforts through their fundraiser shows.Nritya Creations has also performed in the well known Bengali celebration, Durga Puja. Their excelent performances have been recognized all over the country as well as India and Canada.

Meena Basu Nag is the founder and Artistic Director of Nritya Creations. She has been teaching classical dance , choreographing and directing dance productions for Nritya Creations since 1990. Meena has received her formal training in various styles of Indian Dance including Bharat Natyam and Manipuri/Tagore/Uday Shankar styles of Dance from several Gurus. She received her formal training in Bharat Natyam from world renowned Bharat Natyam exponent and late Actress Padmini in the USA.

Meena has choreographed and presented dance programs and dance dramas for numerous cultural events in USA and Canada including AT&T and Lucent 4A Asian Heritage Programs, North American Bengali Conferences, Tagore Festivals, Indian and International Dance Programs and Fundraisers. Meena is an Associate Board Member of the Monmouth County Arts Council.
