[edit] Mapping Hmong History Project
This is a temporary collaborative editing space for Mapping Hmong History Project.
View a prototype of what the map might look like.
[edit] Goal of the project:
To create a free, accurate, online map of Hmong history and culture based on community knowledge.
[edit] Implementation:
Implementation may change in the future, but currently, online tools like Google's "My Maps" can be used to create a working version of the map. Collaborative editing of the map will hopefully be available in the future, but in the meantime, project members can contribute in a number of ways. Participants can download the .kml file of the map and edit it themselves in a free program like "Google Earth." This can then be shared with the administrater who can add the locations to the map. Eventually, each point on the map would be linked to a wiki webpage with information, images, and external links that provide context.
[edit] Join:
This project will require a large base of diverse contributors and everyone is welcome to contribute. Help is needed to identify accurate locations for map points, generate content for the context pages, and organize the project. At this early stage, the easiest way to contribute is to add comments on the discussion page. I suggest using the existing Hmong studies discussion group (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/hmongstudies/) for communication that requires more personally identifiable information (like e-mail) since this wiki page cannot provide any security.
