NPO Energomash

NPO Energomash is the company which main activity is design and production of powerful liquid fuel rocket engines. The founder, Valentin Petrovich Glushko, started designing rocket engines in 1920-s. In 1954 he becomes the head of the independent company, OKB-456, which later became known as NPO Energmash. The company he headed for more than three decades provided Soviet rocket industry with some of most powerful and advanced rocket engines of the time.

NPO Energomash created RD-107 and RD-108, which were used on R-7 rocket to send the first Sputnik into space, RD-253 for Proton rocket, RD-170 for Energia rocket and many other engines.
