The North Pittsburgh Hockey League (NPHL) is an inline hockey league in Western Pennsylvania. The league plays 4 on 4 at indoor rinks and is very exciting. The games are called by certified referees and some times taped for highlight reels and promotional pieces for the league and its partners. All teams are required to have a jersey bearing their team’s logo or name to maintain a professional attitude.

The Original Three

  • Pittsburgh SteelHawks [2]
  • Pittsburgh Static Shock [3]
  • Indiana Thundercats [4]

2007 expansion teams

  • Allegheny Ambush
  • Fox Chapel Team Ram Rod
  • Dangel Snipers

The league runs its season from May to August each year its teams are also very active in hosting winter and spring tournaments. The level of talent in the NPHL and MARHA is expected to increase tremendously in 2007 because many teams have added pro and veteran amateur roller hockey players.

[edit] Trivia

  • The NPHL originated as an outdoor league but failed to attract enough teams and players.
  • The NPHL was first started as a contingency plan to the failing Allegheny Roller Hockey League (2001-2004), which was an outdoor league.
  • The league will hold its first all star game on July 29, 2007 at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont, PA.
  • The league was originally expected to include a team from Cleveland, OH for the 2007 season, but they failed to meet deadlines to join. Expansion to Cleveland, Akron, and Oil City is likely for 2008.
  • The winner of the NPHL receives an automatic bid to the Mid Atlantic Roller Hockey Association Championship tournament out of the West region.
