From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nozawa Boncho (野沢 凡兆?) was a Japanese poet born c.1640 in Kanazawa. He spent most of his life in Kyoto working as a doctor. Boncho was one of Matsuo Bashō's leading disciples and wrote many famous haiku of his period. Boncho died in 1714.

This is perhaps Boncho's most famous haiku:[who?]

The brushwood,
Though cut for fuel,
Is beginning to bud.
