Nowe Warpno [ˈnɔvɛ ˈvarpnɔ] (German: Neuwarp) is a town in Northwestern Poland, in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Police County, on the Szczecin Lagoon, very close to the border with Germany. The population is 1,196 (2006 est.). The town comprises the urban portion of Nowe Warpno Commune, a mixed urban-rural commune (gmina miejsko-wiejska) that includes and surrounds the town. The rural part of the commune has the lowest population density of any such division in Poland, with only 2.09 persons/km², although the town's density (48.8/km²) raises the commune's overall average to 7.88/km², still the fourth lowest in Poland.
Prior to World War II, the town was was in Germany, and was known by its German name, Neuwarp. It was transferred to Poland in 1945 as part of the territorial changes promulgated at the Potsdam Conference.
The town is located on the inlet of Neuwarp Bay on the southern shore of the Szczecin Lagoon. Across the strait of 800 meters width lies the twin town of Altwarp (alt and neu meaning old and new) in the german part of Pomerania. A small uninhabitated island being part of polish Nowe Warpno lies only 70 meters off the coast of german Altwarp, making it possible to swim from Germany to Poland and vice versa.
