I would like to point out that now the text effectively blurs the distinction between "dance craze" and a very specific term "novelty/fad dance" used in contexts of the 2nd half of 20th century and line dances. I think "dance crazes/fads/revolutions" as historical phenomena must be collected into a separate section or even a separate article.

Chubby Checker was not the first one to record "the Twist", although he did make it into a hit. How then can this be an example of a song being written to create a dance craze and sell more records. There are lots of others, though.Steve Pastor 21:30, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
And although Chubby Checker and others say it was the first dance where the partners danced apart, that can easily be refuted by looking at rock 'n' roll movies that were made in the mid 1950s, or reading about some of the dances that were done on early American Bandstand shows.
