Novodvinsk

Novodvinsk (Russian: Новодви́нск) is a town in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Northern Dvina River, 20 km south of Arkhangelsk. It was founded in 1936 as the settlement of Voroshilovsky serving a pulp and paper mill, received urban-type settlement status in 1941. In 1958 it was renamed Pervomaysky. In 1977 it received town status and was renamed Novodvinsk. Population: 43,383 (2002 Census); 50,183 (1989 Census).
