Novocheboksarsk (Russian: Новочебокса́рск; Chuvash: Çěнě Шупашкар) is a city in the Chuvash Republic, Russia, located about three kilometers east of Chuvashia's capital Cheboksary, on the southern bank of the Volga River. Population: 125,857 (2002 Census);[1] 114,760 (1989 Census).[2] Area: 36.7 square kilometers (14.2 sq mi).

Novocheboksarsk consists of three residential areas: Eastern, Southern, and Western comprising eighteen city microdistricts.[3] [4]

Novocheboksarsk began to raise in 1960 when a trend of building satellite cities started. Starting from barren land, the growing town absorbed surrounding villages, such as Yelnikovo, Yandashevo, Anatkasy, and Tsygankasy.

Birthday of the city is customary assumed November 18, 1960. The city grew at a rapid rate; in 1978 it passed the mark of its first square kilometre, and on October 29, 1983 its 100,000th inhabitant was born.
