Novi Zagreb-istok
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Novi Zagreb - istok ("New Zagreb - east") contains Mamutica (Mammoth-female) in the quarter Travno which was built to be the largest communal housing block in southeast Europe. Mamutica towers above other blocks of flats so that the impression is given that it must be on a hill even though the entire area is a flat plain. The neighborhood is served by the Gustav Krklec school (grades 1 - 8).
In the north of Novi Zagreb, just south of the river Sava is lake Bundek. Though originally a gravel pit, nature has reclaimed it and it is now an area of woods, brushwood and ponds, a jewel of nature in the middle of the city. In the year 2006 lake Bundek was hastilly decorated, and now it has beach, and a lot of amusing accessories.
Novi Zagreb - istok has the status of četvrt (quarter, neighbourhood) and as such has an elected council.
Novi Zagreb - istok had 65,301 residents as of 2001.
