The Nova Southeastern University College of Medical Sciences is part of the Health Professions Division.

For those students wishing to improve their academic credentials in the medical sciences, the College of Medical Sciences offers a two year program of study leading to a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences. Each student's program is individually tailored to meet the student's needs and aspirations. Those enrolled in this program take basic science courses similar to those offered within the Health Professions Division during their first year. During the second year, students continue their program of general studies.[1]

The Master of Biomedical Sciences degree program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

[edit] About the program

Delivering the only program of its kind in Florida, and one of few in the country, NSU’s College of Medical Sciences advances students’ scientific knowledge and training—securing their futures in the health care fields. With this competitive foundation in the medical sciences, the majority of our students are accepted at medical and dental schools. Many also use what they learn in our classrooms and laboratories to jumpstart their careers in biology as generalists, specialists, or teachers.[2]

The college’s small classes offer interactive experiences, training students to analyze and participate as contributing members of the medical community. Our histology labs use microscopes synchronized with television screens, allowing students and professors to simultaneously observe slide samples, stimulating group discussion and student engagement. In gross anatomy classes, students have access to X rays, cadavers, and computer programs—all in the same laboratories—strengthening the connection between lectures, textbooks, and practical field applications. After one year of coursework, students tailor their education to their individual needs by continuing in the general studies program or concentrating their focus in a particular area.[3]

NSU's comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach provides students with a wellrounded, competitive medical foundation. Courses in human biology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, and pharmacology are taken with those attending other colleges within NSU’s Health Professions Division (HPD). In addition, the skilled professors in the College of Medical Sciences—all of whom have M.D.s or Ph.D.s in their fields—teach courses within the other five HPD colleges. Through small group instruction, students gain industry insight from faculty members who share advice and knowledge garnered from successful careers in research, academics, and quality patient care. This individualized attention provides our future medical professionals with opportunities to establish close working relationships with faculty advisers. Our students gain not only the solid scientific background necessary for advanced medical study, but the skills to successfully realize all their aspirations in the health fields.[4]
