[edit] Sandberg Prize

For whom is the Sandberg Prize named? Is it Mordecai Sandberg? I could not find any information about this in English. If it's named for him, that should be added to the article with a good reference (one in Hebrew would be OK if it's not documented anywhere in English). Also, since he lived in Israel for a significant part of his life, the Hebrew spelling of his name would be welcome. Thanks. --Reuben (talk) 17:54, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] History of Israeli Nationality

Finding the new article bot exposes a massive amount of articles needing improvement or otherwise dubious notability. This extensive new article, reads like an essay. Who would have noticed it? --Shuki (talk) 20:01, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration

Following the recent ArbCom case, we've set up a new WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration. While the WikiProject is still developing, our goals are to promote a more hospitable editing environment for Israeli-Palestinian topics; quiet the battleground among editors; help prevent or resolve POV disputes; and mobilize Project members to work together to improve articles.

We'd like to see a broad range of participation from WIkipedia editors, from all points of view and from various editing and admin interests. So, please join this WikiProject as a member and help it make a difference with the articles in this topic area. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for the WikiProject, too. Thanks very much. HG | Talk 02:20, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Afd

Editors of the article Israel and the European Union may be interested in this[1]. Squash Racket (talk) 15:45, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jerusalem as part of 'Arab states'

Please have a look at the discussion over at List of World Heritage Sites in the Arab States - where some editors insist we list the Old City of Jerusalem in this list, despite the clear efforts of UNESCO to avoid listing it as being part of any state -Arab or Isreal. Canadian Monkey (talk) 05:35, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

What do I have to do, CM, upload a screenshot of the site? Go to http://whc.unesco.org/pg.cfm?cid=31&l=en&&&mode=table&order=region, scroll down to "Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls", note the "Region" listed as "ARB," as I've already told you at least twice already. Gahhhhh.... <eleland/talkedits> 05:41, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
What you have to do is answer a simple question: Which Arab state does UNESCO claim this site is in? One word would do. Canadian Monkey (talk) 05:54, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
The specific state name is not listed, likely because it is not clear whether it is Jordan or the Palestinian National Authority who will oversee the site after final status negotiations. It is however clear that the region is listed as "ARB", unlike the Old City of Acre and Tel Aviv which are listed as "EUR" (Europe) and the state as "IL" (Israel). Eleland's footnote explaining the issue is NPOV and appropriate. I don't understand why we should ignore that UNESCO lists the site as part of the Arab region. That seems rather significant, no? Tiamuttalk 11:35, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
The specific name is not listed, becuase the official UNESCO position is that it is not in nay state. In the future, it might someday be in Jordan, or in a Palestinian state, or, as is more likely per recent proposal, in Israel. Your comment regarding Acre and Tel Aviv is actually quite illuminating with regards to this discussion. If you look at List of World Heritage Sites in Europe, you will not see either one of these, nor will you see Masada, any of the biblical Tels or the Nabatean cities. This is not because some anti-Israeli bigot removed them, but rather for the mundane reason that the list is called [[List of World Heritage Sites in Europe]], and UNESCO's listing of Tel Aviv in the "EUR" region does not magically change geography and move Tel Aviv or Acre into Europe. Similarly, UNESCO's listing of Old Jerusalem in the "ARB" region does not magically change geography or decide legal issues, and certainly does not override UNESCO"s own stated position that by accepting the Jordanian application, it is not making any political statement and is not deciding anything with regards to sovereignty. Canadian Monkey (talk) 15:29, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
It appears that Eleland has unilaterally decided that you were wrong, right after you brought this up. I think we should involve more editors in this discussion, and that Eleland acted incorrectly, although I will not revert his edit yet. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 18:39, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Requesting review

This isn't a request for FA peer review, but a friendly peer review from other editors regarding an article I recently expanded and would like to nominate for GA. The article is Arad, Israel. You may post comments here or on the talk page of the article (create a talk section there please). Thanks, Ynhockey (Talk) 18:52, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Second intifada

I wanted to wikify the Template:Campaignbox Second Intifada, and found both 2007-2008 Israel-Gaza conflict and 2008 Israel-Gaza conflict. I posted messages on their talkpages suggesting a partial merge, but they were not answered as yet. Then there's also Israel-Gaza conflict and Violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict 2008, and maybe others as well. Some are pretty messy not quite updated - none mention Mercaz HaRav massacre, for instance. Any ideas? -- Nudve (talk) 04:48, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I think that 2006, 2007, 2008 etc. articles for the Israel-Gaza conflict are not necessary. IMO, there should only be 3 categories of article:
1) Israel-Gaza conflict, the most important article outlining the conflict and including info from the current 2006-8 versions
2) YYYY in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which would be more like a timeline, similar to other YYYY in X articles common on Wikipedia.
3) Individual notable event articles, like Operation Hot Winter and Mercaz HaRav Massacre
All other articles are IMO not necessary and should be merged. Thanks for bringing up this issue to the attention of other editors on WP:Israel, and hopefully we will introduce order into this series of articles.
-- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:53, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
You're probably right. That might take a lot of work, though. Perhaps we should notice WP:Palestine as well? anyway, in the meantime, do you suggest we remove the YYYY links from the Gaza section of the campaignbox and just leave the operations? -- Nudve (talk) 14:28, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that would be fine. Other than notifying WP Palestine, please notify other Israeli editors, because from my experience, most of them don't follow this page. I wonder if Tewfik is still active, he used to edit this kind of articles a lot. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 15:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
OK. Which editors? I won't notify the entire list of members. I'll post a notice on the talk page, maybe it will find a bigger audience. -- Nudve (talk) 15:33, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm trying to reach Tewfik by e-mail now, because he doesn't seem to be active on Wikipedia since December 2007. He would be the ideal user to perform these tasks. Right now I think the only other Israeli users who edit conflict-related articles are Michael Safyan and Jaakobou. The others have given up I think because of the numerous disputes in these articles. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 15:44, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
We're all on the brink of giving up, Ynhockey. But in terms of Israeli editors who still do edit conflict-related articles, you forgot to mention Number 57, Zeq, Leifern, Itzse, Humus Sapiens, Yahel Guhan, and IronDuke, to name a few. Hope that helps. Tiamuttalk 16:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't tend to edit the conflict-related articles beyond occasional corrections/formatting (largely due to the reason and editors mentioned by Ynhockey), but I would also agree that a merger between the three Gaza conflict articles is a good idea, and with Ynhockey on the rest of the stuff (aside from bringing back Tewfik - I was quite glad when his contributions ended, as I'm afraid that he was not entirely capable of stickig to NPOV). Posting this at WT:Israel might elicit a greater response too. пﮟოьεԻ 57 20:34, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hebrew naming conventions (again)

Yes, we're back on that subject again - after nearly 3 years of trying fruitlessly to create this important guideline for Wikipedia, and in fact operating by an unwritten draft thereof for a couple years now, I've finally formulated a final draft which seems to encompass the general consensus. Just notifying everyone about it (link: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew) (WP:HE)). If there are no major objections, we can finally turn this into an actual guideline, wow! -- Ynhockey (Talk) 21:23, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright

If any WP:israel members are interested, I uploaded a series of PD domain images from 1897 under the pre-1923 rule, but that does not let them be uploaded into the commons. I'd like to get them uploaded there, but I cannot figure out the copyright law of these images (for Switzerland [except the first one, which is Germany and 1898)). If anyone would like to look at it, be my guest. Epson291 (talk) 11:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] copyvio and merge

  • Nahal Charedi A merge was suggested last year, but the outcome is virtually certain since the page is copyvio. --Shuki (talk) 08:19, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pro-Israel

I don't think this is a legit page. Is their anything comparable elsewhere? --Shuki (talk) 20:56, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree. I'd nominate it for deletion. -- Nudve (talk) 04:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Israeli-Arab

I figure this issue could use wider community observation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_May_7#Category:Arab_Citizens_of_Israel

Personally, I'm not aware that "Arab citizen of Israel" is a used/common term, but you might feel otherwise. Anyways, I figured this needs some more notice. JaakobouChalk Talk 13:24, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 21:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Letter of British Jews on 60th anniversary of Israel

I've nominated the page for deletion here. Feel free to comment. Epson291 (talk) 08:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Deleted. Thanks. --Shuki (talk) 21:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CfD nomination of Category:Crime in the West Bank and Gaza Strip

Category:Crime in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has been nominated for deletion, merging, or renaming. [edit] Roi Rutenberg

This article has a long unsourced euology by Moshe Dayan on it. A source I found online said: "Moshe Dayan, eulogy after Roi Rutenberg at Kibbutz Nahal Oz, 1956, quoted in Uri Avneri, Israel Without Zionists: A Plan for Peace in the Middle East, New York: Collier Books, Macmillan, 1974, p. 154" I was wondering if anyone can help to verify the words from that text or any other text. I posted a little more info on the talk page. (Jewish Virtual Library is a Wikipedia mirror.) gren グレン 08:15, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Jewish Virtual Library is not a Wikipedia mirror. גרב (talk) 10:02, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I should have been more clear. This article on the Jewish Virtual library is a Wikipedia mirror. gren グレン 10:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Return to Zion / Gathering of Israel

Two OR based articles now exist. Legit subject, needs major work. --Shuki (talk) 21:17, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

The Return to Zion could use a lot of work, although I think it's more within the scope (and expertise) of WP:JH.
As for Gathering of Israel however, I'm afraid it might be unsalvageable: It relies completely on a pro-Israel propaganda site, and is an inappropriate mixture of biblical prophecies with modern Israeli history. I'd propose deletion. -- Nudve (talk) 05:44, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Muhammad_al-Durrah

Is the belief that the death of Al-Dura was staged, a fringe or conspiracy view? How much weight is WP:UNDUE for that theory? Should there be any difference in presentation of the article in light of recent French court case that found for Karsenty? Please check out this page at Fringe theories/Noticeboard -- then please be sure to check out Talk:Muhammad_al-Durrah Tundrabuggy (talk) 04:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tantura massacre

I think the stub Tantura massacre could use some attention. -- SEWilco (talk) 19:14, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
