The line between Newark and Lincoln is currently only cleared for 60mph running, Nottingham County Council have paid for a study into a 90mph railway.[1]

The Nottingham to Lincoln line was opened by the Midland Railway on 3 August 1846. It was engineered by George Stephenson.

Passenger services on the line are provided by East Midlands Trains, normally using Class 156 diesel multiple units, although at certain times the Class 158 is also used. Many trains on this route run south of Nottingham to/from Leicester (via the Midland Main Line). Occasional trains additionally call at Newark North Gate by reversing a short section of the East Coast Main Line from/to its junction to the north of the station.

The line serves the following places.

The service is generally hourly Monday-Saturday, but considering the popular line links two cities, the Sunday service is woefully inadequate. The first trains usually depart on Sundays in either city during Mid Afternoon.
