Nottingham University Boat Club

The Nottingham University Boat Club (NUBC) is the rowing club of the University of Nottingham based in the UK on the River Trent. Founded in 1948 the club has over 120 current active members, equally split between men’s, women’s and novice squads. Nottingham University is one of the largest university boat clubs in the UK, catering for all levels of rowing. Recent achievements have been wins at Henley Women’s Regatta, National Championships, weekend appearances at Henley Royal Regatta and International representation at the World Under 23 Championships and EUSA Regatta.

[edit] Boat House

The boat house and 'shed' are situated between Lady Bay bridge and the Nottingham Forest F.C's City ground on the south bank of the River Trent. The boat house consists of changing rooms, gym, club room and kitchen.

Martin Kay was appointed Head Coach of Nottingham University Boat Club in 2006. Having previously coached at Leander and Marlow he now leads the Universities coaching team.

The club has a proud tradition at BUCS regatta where it has won the Victor Ludorum in 9 of the past 14 years. Controversially at the 2004 BUSA Regatta the club were found to be operating outside the rules and disqualified from the Regatta and the subsequent regatta.

The Boat Club enjoys an annual Varsity Match against Nottingham Trent University. Traditionally men's and women's 1st and 2nd VIIIs as well as novices VIIIs race side by side down a 3000m course on the River Trent, culminating in a presentation ceremony and party in the evening.

The club has an annual training camp traditionally held in the Easter vacation.

A training camp for existing and new members coming into the club is scheduled for September 2007.

Wednesday night at Nottingham University is Athletic Union (AU) night and our socials coincide with a trip to ISIS. Socials are frequently themed for added entertainment and normally start in a local bar before heading into town.

Tiger Ball The Tiger ball is held once a year, usually in November/December. The event is staged on the same day as the annual old boy's boat race. The day involves racing between current members and alumni during the afternoon followed by the ball in the evening.

Tiger Bar Over the May Bank Holiday weekend that plays host to BUSA Regatta, NUBC puts on one of the biggest university social events of the year. Students from every university in the country are welcomed to Tiger Bar. Running at Holme Pierpont over the duration of the BUSA weekend, a bar is laid on in a purpose built marquee to play host to up to 500 rowers. Culminating in a huge party on the Sunday night.

The clubs 'Eights Head of the River' initiation for freshers consisting of 6 half pints of Lager/Bitter/Stout/Cider/Bitter/Lager to be drank within 6 minutes.
