Notepad+

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notepad+ is a text editor for Windows PC systems from RogSoft that is intended as a replacement for the default Notepad editor.[1] It has more formatting features than the latter, although like the latter it works exclusively with plain text.[2] It can open text files of any size, and a single instance of the program can have multiple files open simultaneously. Dragging and dropping text within a single file or from one file to another is supported, as are multiple fonts and colours.[3]

Notepad+ was developed by Dutch programmer Rogier Meurs. Originally, it had the advantage over Notepad with being able to open files of any size, because the latter was unable to open files greater than or equal to 64KiB. However, this deficiency in Notepad had been remedied by Microsoft by 2000.[4]

It was first released in 1996.[citation needed]

The program has not been developed since v1.11 in 1996 but it still has many users who prefer its simple interface over many of the other Notepad alternatives which have since appeared.[citation needed]
