Talk:Nose tackle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The information regarding the 4-3 "nose tackle" is somewhere between misleading and incorrect. While in specific defensive playbooks, 4-3 interior linemen may be designated as Nose Tackle and Under Tackle (as opposed to having no designation as the article suggests) rather than Right Tackle and Left Tackle, both interior linemen are not playing the nose tackle position, because nose tackle is ONLY the middle defensive lineman in a 3-lineman defense or a 5 lineman defense. They are simply playing a specific or specialized technique in the Defensive Tackle position.
The assertion that Baltimore employed two nose tackles the year they won the Super Bowl is absurd. There can only be one nose tackle, and although both of the DTs the Ravens started that year, Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams, were well-suited to playing Nose Tackle, neither one did because they played in a 4-man front.

I've added a section on the 3-4 scheme. It's to the best of my knowledge, so feel free to edit it. The information previously provided was so incomplete that I felt something was better than nothing. PenoftheAuthor 03:28, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Merger proposal
This is just a form of a defensive tackle... it is just how the defensive tackle is used. Why don't we merge this with the Defensive tackle article? --Brian Seel (talk) 10:34, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MERGE!
I agree that a nose tackle is just a position of defensive tackle.--164.64.164.35 (talk) 23:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
