Talk:Nose piercing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stretching to a larger gauge is incredibly painful and it is advised to wait a month between stretches. From my experience, and from what I've heard from everyone I know with septum piercings, they don't hurt when stretched, if they're pierced properly (that is, not through cartilage). In fact, many stretch on their own, to the point where old jewelry falls out.

Another disadvantage to a stretching procedure is the undesirable fish-like smell that comes with it. It doesn't if you clean your jewelry and the piercing regularly, and some people never get it at all. Just some gentle sea salt soaks can be enough to prevent it. (Also, I've never, ever heard it described as "fish-like".)--Ety 03:04, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I can tell it's popular just by walking around downtown.  ;) That's just anecdotal, but I'm not sure of a better way to rate "popularity" unless a formal study has been done. Hephaestos 19:23 2 Jun 2003 (UTC)

I was wondering if there is any information on piercing the bridge of the nose? I have seen people with it and am considering it myself. Put your thumb and index finger between your eyes like you are adjusting eyeglasses, and then move down your nose until you feel the bone stop and the cartilage begin. Thats where I'm talking about. If you know anything about this, please leave a note on my talk page. DryGrain 19:17, 18 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Where did this info. come from:

Contrary to this, many people with such piercings report that virtually no pain whatsoever is involved and the piercing community generally regards it as an only moderately painful modification.

Are there any sources that actually say this? My septum, hurt more than any other piercing I've ever gotten (the only thing that came close was my front helix). My brother has pierced himself before, and has said that the septum is the only piercing he has ever had to get someone else to perform, since he was unable to do it himself. millerc 01:09, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] ahem

That picture is of a septum peircing and does not apply here and is used on multiple pages a more appropriate pic should be used. 63.164.201.71 06:55, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

First of all, please place new comments at the BOTTOM of pages, not the top. Second, yes, it's a septum piercing. It's in the section on septum piercings. It's a type of nose piercing. What the hell is the problem? Exploding Boy 07:41, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Exploding Boy. However, it is true that the particular image is used in more than one article. Additional images would be greatly appreciated. If 63.164.201.71 wants to do some real work instead of complaining, feel free. Earpol 10:02, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Indian and/or Hinduism?

Doesn't nose piercing have some special purpose in the Indian subcontinent? I believe it relates to Hinduism. If someone knows, perhaps this should be added.

[edit] Hinduism and nostril piercing

It does relate to Hinduism, female piercing of the left nostril is supposed to symbolize marriage and protection during child bearing.

There are alot more nose related piercings than those listed, should they be included, or is this just about the more common ones? Frek
