Knife Edge: Nose Gunner is a video game for Nintendo 64 made by Kemco. It was released November 27th, 1998 in Japan and November 1st, 1998 in North America. Until the re-release of Sin and Punishment for Virtual Console, this was the only rail shooter released outside Japan for the N64.
[edit] Gameplay
Knife Edge is for one to four players. The player, while moving about the locations of the game in the Knife Edge helicopter\ship, controls a cursor that fires unlimited vulcan cannon bullets. When more than one player is playing each cursor is color coded to tell the difference. On top of having the regular gun there is the option for a secondary weapon. Hints are provided by a commanding officer over the communication system. Each player can have one of the six weapons at at time and can switch by simply pausing the game.
The six other weapons are:
- Homing Missiles
- Plasma Torpedo
- Nuke
- Flak Discharge
- Laser Cannon
- Special Bomb (limited ammo)
Movement of the vehicle is clearly predetermined, but the player is given some ability to move in the form of the four C-buttons on the Nintendo 64 controller. When a button is depressed the ship will move slightly in the corresponting direction. This is used primarily to avoid objects\attacks.
Many magazines have said[citation needed] that this game is among the worst games released on the Nintendo 64 alongside the Cruis'n USA Series and Clay fighter 63 1/3
