Talk:North Queensland Thunder FC

Awful awful awful. What is Australia's obsession with infantile sporting club names? I didn't think it could get any worse than Qld Roar. --202.47.49.185 (talk) 00:48, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nothing will ever top Melbourne Victory or Perth Glory. Bongomanrae (talk) 07:26, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

As per the recent situation with Gold Coast Galaxy FC being replaced with Gold Coast A-League franchise, should this topic follow suit and replace this article with a page such as North Queensland A-League franchise, especially with Thunder name seemingly being dropped? - I think we can safely move this one to North Queensland FC - I found a source [1] stating that it is the same club - "NQ FC, which rose from the ashes of the Northern Thunder, won't be relying solely on local Townsville spirit to get them over the line this month." Of course the history about the 2008-09 season should remain a part of the new article, as it has for the Gold Coast one. - I personally believe "North Queensland A-League franchise" would be better:
- Consistency - echoes the GC page
- Allows the possibility of another name change for NQFC (however unlikely)
- Allows for another Townsville bid with a different name becoming the frontrunner.
- I also agree with you that the Thunder name/bid history should remain part of the article as much as Galaxy is for the GC page.
- Also - information on the other bids. I'd rather see the page be about the situation of the A-League expanding to Townsville, rather than one particular bid. While we're at it, I think it's important to also include the 2007/08 bid (Tropical Football Australia) that tried for the 8th license before it was granted to Wellington (something I thank my lucky stars for every day! ;) haha) Gialloneri (talk) 05:28, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
