[edit] Borough and township
This article, which provides statistics on the borough, should also include discussion of the township. Both are listed in the US Census. The township has an estimated 2006 population of 6700, while the borough has 4302. The grape and cherry harvests are surely taking place in the outlying township, not in the borough. The wine country external link provides separate histories for the borough and township. The Erie Times-News, in an article "Sweet end to grape season" dated 31 October 2007, says that North East harvests 12,000 acres of grapes annually. The article adds that the overall impact of the grape industry on Erie County is $181 million annually including 956 jobs.--Pat 17:46, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
