[edit] Highway Ends

NC 90's western terminus is actually at Edgemont where it intersects FS 981, SR 1420 (Edgemont Rd.) and SR 1358 (Edgemont Church Rd.). Further up SR 1420 (ex-NC 90), state maintenance ends and it spends some time as FR 45 until it picks back up as SR 1514 in Avery Co. This is indicated by the NCDOT map for Caldwell County and Avery County, State Transportation Map (2007) and the Pisgah NF Grandfather Ranger District map (1993). I will do additional checking, but the last State Transportation Map I have showing NC 90 as ending at US 221 is 1955. In 1965, the map is showing it as a highway to Edgemont and then as a S.R. to US 221. I will check the rest of my collection for a more definite time period of the truncation.

I (or someone else) should make the appropriate changes to the main article.

Also, as a further note: NC 197 and NC 281 also have unpaved sections. NC 281 is currently being paved; however, 197 still has a gravel portion at the moment.Exw81 03:07, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
