[edit] Hooten/Gibson

There has been mention of an actual Delta Force operator named Norm "Hoot" Gibson, which Bana's movie character was based on. However, I cannot (yet) find documentation that Norm Gibson is a real person. In the meantime, this article about a fictional character will have to suffice. Alcarillo 16:53, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Can someone with access to Mark Bowden's book Black Hawk Down check for any references to an actual Delta operator named "Hoot"? Alcarillo 17:05, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Guys, He's Delta Force. You aren't supposed to be able to find references to him. You aren't even supposed to be able to find a picture of the person. There's a big difference in Delta than Rangers or Navy Seals.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.150.19 (talk)

Ah, another worthy contribution from an anon user. That valuable addition notwithstanding, I found reference to the name Hooten on the official Black Hawk Down website at the Philadelphia inquirer: [1] Alcarillo 22:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Norm Hoot

He was real person and in command for the delta assault team but his identity was covered , he served later in Afghanistan during operation Anaconda 2002 sources : personal knowledge —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.132.48.229 (talk)

[edit] Weapon safety

I believe this information was gleaned from the film account of the Battle of Mogadishu; according to interviews and commentary from actual Delta Operators on the Black Hawk Down DVD, this aspect of 'conflict' between Delta and Rangers was a Hollywood invention. Unless someone can provide a verifiable source, this section should be removed. Alcarillo 17:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The name Gibson

This name is derived from a video game and nothing related to the actual Norman Hooten

[edit] Eric Bana Commentary

On the Black Hawk Down DVD Eric Bana states that his character, 'Hoot', is an amalgam of a number of different people that were actually there.Patrolmanno9 (talk) 04:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
