1. Por mais que fosse exagerada, a percepção de uma "ameaça comunista" no Brasil não era apenas uma fantasmagoria: havia intenção real dos comunistas de chegar ao poder por meios revolucionários.

Foi nesse contexto que estourou, em 23 de novembro de 1935, uma revolta comunista em Natal; no dia seguinte, em Recife; e no dia 27, no Rio de Janeiro.
