Norwell High School (Massachusetts)

Norwell High School is a public secondary school, accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is located in Norwell, Massachusetts. The school includes 39 full-time teachers, giving it an approximate 15:1 student-teacher ratio. 95% of students are Caucasian, 3% of students are Asian and 1% each of students are Hispanic or African-American. Its students consistently score above state and national averages on the SAT and other standardized tests, and on average, 90% of students from each graduating class at Norwell High School continue on to post-secondary education.

Since fall of 2006 Principal Matthew A. Keegan has led Norwell High. The school's administration includes assistant principals Andrea Keating and Michael Devine. The school's administration also includes five guidance counselors.

The school's faculty offers a wide array of academic courses in several departments:

  • English: World and American Literature, Shakespeare, Creative Writing, Nonfiction, the Adolescent in Literature and two AP courses
  • Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics and Discrete Mathematics, Calculus (including AP) and Problem Solving
  • Foreign Language: Spanish, French and Latin, including AP course offerings in each and courses specializing in Vergil, Horace and Catullus
  • Science: Biology (including AP), Chemistry (including AP), Physics (including AP), Anatomy, Marine Biology, Renewable Energy and Astronomy
  • Social Studies: World History, US History (including AP), European History (including AP), Psychology, Global Studies, Law, Gender/Race/Class, American Government (AP), The Holocaust and Human Behavior, Modern War
  • Art: Studio Art (including AP), Digital Photography, and Film
  • Music: Symphonic Band, mixed Chorus, Jazz Workshop, Music Theory, Music Appreciation
  • PE/Health: Health/Physical Education, Strength Training, Lifetime Activities, Yoga, Pilates, Lifetime Fitness
  • Applied Technology: Java, Publications and Presentations, Web Design, Computer Animation, Computer Repair, TV Studio, Robotics, CAD, Engineering the Future, Building Construction
  • Special Education: Skills Program, Direct Academic Instruction, Life Skills, Work Experience, Life Skills Reading, Content Area Reading

The school's staff also includes seven cafeteria workers and four custodians.
