Norwegian passport

Norwegian Passports are issued to nationals of Norway for the purpose of international travel. The passport may also serve as proof of Norwegian citizenship. They are valid for ten years and share the standardized layout and burgundy-red design of most EU countries, despite the fact Norway is not part of it.

Regular Norwegian passports are burgundy in colour, with the Norway Coat of arms emblazoned in the top of the front cover. The words (Norwegian: "NORGE" (bokmål), "NOREG" (nynorsk) and (English "NORWAY") is inscribed below the coat of arms and the word "PASS" and "PASSPORT" emblazoned below the name of the country. The new biometric Norwegian passport has the standard biometric symbol at the bottom.

[edit] Visa-free and Visa-on-arrival Travel

According to a study done by Henley & Partners, Norway has a Henley Visa Restrictions Index of 127, which means that Norwegian citizens enjoy visa-free access to 127 countries and territories for short-term tourism visits. Norway is ranked 5th in the study in terms of international travel freedom, sharing the same place with Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. [1]

It is estimated that 189 countries and territories granted visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Norwegian Citizen passport holders of which 153 countries and territories are visa free accessible. (visa on arrival for free counted) [2] Visa issued prior to arrival or pre-arrangement required for countries or territories not mentioned below.

Where visa-free access is permitted, such access is not necessarily a right, and admission may technically be at the discretion of border enforcement officers. Visitors engaging in activities other than tourism, including unpaid work, may require a visa or work permit.
