Norwegian Premier League 1991

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tippeligaen 1991 is the highest Football league in Norway. 22 games are played with 3 points given for wins and 1 for draws. Number eleven and twelve are relegated. The winners of the two groups of the first division are promoted, as well as the winner of a series of play-off matches between the two second placed teams in the two groups of the first division and number ten in the Premier League.

The season began on April 27, 1991. The season ended on October 13, 1991 with Viking F.K. claiming their eighth league title. Viking were thus the last club to win the league before Rosenborg B.K.'s 13-year domination started.

1991 was the year Norway's top division became known as Tippeligaen, after its sponsor Norsk Tipping. Its old name, the "1st Division", came to denote the second highest division.
