Norton-on-Derwent is a town and civil parish in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England. It runs into Malton, the two are separated by the River Derwent. The 2001 census gave the population of the parish as 6,943. Both Malton railway station and Malton bus station are in fact located in Norton. Similarly Malton Bacon Factory, a large factory, is in fact in Norton.
Leisure facilities in Norton include Derwent Swimming Pool and Fitness Suite and Ryedale Skate Park. Norton also has a primary school, secondary school (certified technology college), which also now includes a newly built sixth form college, and a playgroup.
Norton-On-Derwent also has fields which are regulary used for racecourse training on horses.
From 1894 to 1974 it was an urban district in the East Riding of Yorkshire. [1]
