Northwestern California University School of Law is a distance learning institution founded in 1983. It is approved by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to issue degrees, however, its courses are currently not accredited by the American Bar Association or other accreditation agencies.

The School originally delivered courses entirely through correspondence. The mode of learning changed in the late 1990s when internet-based learning was introduced as the main medium of teaching.

Registered, but not accredited by the California State Bar [1], the school offers the Juris Doctor (JD), Non-Bar Track Juris Doctor, Master of Laws (LLM), Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) and Paralegal programs.
[edit] Bar Pass Rate
In October 2006, sixty-seven students took the California First Year Law Students Examination (the "Baby Bar") for the first time. Fourteen passed. Thirty-three students took this examination after previously failing it at least once. Six passed. [2]
In the July 2006 California Bar Examination, six graduates took the examination for the first time. Only one passed. Nine took the examination for, at least, a second time after previously failing it. Two passed. [3]
