Northside, Cincinnati

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Northside is a neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio that is bordered by the neighborhoods of Clifton to the south, Mount Airy to the west, Winton Place/Spring Grove to the East, and College Hill to the north. Northside was originally known as "North Cumminsville", but changed names to "Northside" several decades ago.

As one approaches Northside from Clifton, banners become visible. The neighborhood is known to have a very diverse population: college students, artists, young professionals, and many members of the creative class are among the major groups that reside in the neighborhood. In recent years, Northside has become popular with Cincinnati's gay community. This has led to some gentrification of the area.

There are numerous shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. During the warmer months the Northside Community Council sponsors a farmer's market in the Lingo Street parking lot.

Many of Cincinnati's original bands can be heard in one of Northside's nightspots.

The neighborhood's Fourth of July Parade and Festival is one of the most popular in Cincinnati.

Northside is located just down the hill from Clifton.
