The Northlands Pony is an extremely old breed that originates in Norway. It is generally considered to be a descendant of the Asiatic Wild Horse and the Tarpan, from which the Baltic pony, or Konik and the Celtic ponies, the Icelandic horse, Shetland and Exmoor pony, also derived. The Northlands, therefore, have much in common with the breeds mentioned above and comparisons between them are worth making. They are mainly bay or brown and stand between 12 and 14 hands high.
