Northland State of Somalia is an autonomous state in the disputed Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions of Somalia between the self-declared Republic of Somaliland and the Autonomous Somali States of Puntland and Maakhir. This initiative is spearheaded by the Dulbahante Somali clan, a Harti Darod clan, for much the same reasons that Maakhir State was declared in Sanaag by the Warsangeli, another Harti Darod clan located in disputed territory between Somaliland and Puntland.
Notable towns within these borders include Taleex, Yagoori, Xudun, and Buuhoodle.
Northland State was declared May 1st 2008, and many of the details have yet to be worked out.
