[edit] History

Dr. James Wooster was the first president of Northland Baptist Bible College from 1976 to 1981. He was a missionary under Baptist Mid-Missions for 29 years before being called to help start NBBC. He was also an instructor at Indiana Baptist College, where he was awarded his D.D. degree. After serving as NBBC's president until 1981, he returned to foreign missions, and NBBC continued on without a college president for several years.

From 1984 to 2002, Dr. Les Ollila, now NBBC's chancellor, served as NBBC's president. Under his leadership, Northland grew to approximately 650 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, representing 43 states and 12 foreign countries. Dr. Ollila received a B.A. and an L.L.D. honorary degree from Bob Jones University. He also received a D.D. honorary degree from FaithWay Baptist College of Michigan. Prior to serving at NBBC, he served more than five years with Life Action Revival Ministries. After pastoring in South Carolina, he served 10 years as associate pastor and director of youth ministries at the former Calvary Baptist Church of Roseville, Michigan. Besides directing Leadership Ministries, he authored Manna, a devotional, and the Foundations for Youth Programs. He is a nationally recognized seminar and conference speaker in the areas of leadership training, Christian educators’ conferences, family-centered church meetings, summer camps, and Christian school ministries.

In 2002, Dr. Matt Olson became college president and Dr. Ollila became chancellor. Prior to serving at NBBC, Dr. Olson was pastor of Tri-City Baptist Church in Westminster, Colorado. Dr. Olson received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Bob Jones University and later completed his doctoral work at Northland Baptist Bible College. His passion is for local church ministry and for the full scope of the Great Commission. Along with church planting and missions, he has developed a special interest in helping young people as they prepare for ministry. Dr. Olson serves on a number of boards and is a frequent conference speaker in the United States and abroad.
