[edit] History
The Northwestern Wildcats originated in the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League. After winning the league championship in 1996 and 1997, the NSHL was created and they jumped ship. They changed their name to the Longlac Merchants for one season and then reverted back to the Wildcats moniker.
After joining the NSHL in 1997, the Longlac Merchants did not enjoy much success. In 1998, the team changed their name to the Northern Wildcats but their statistics continued to dwindle. They folded in 2002, leaving the NSHL with the Wawa Travellers, Marathon Renegades, and the Aguasabon River Rats.
