Northern Territory Debating Union
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Northern Territory Debating Union (NTDU) is a not-for-profit school debating association in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is an affiliate of the Australian Debating Federation.
The Northern Territory Debating Union conducts Australian-style debates to train and encourage secondary school students to take an interest in world affairs, public speaking and debating. It is responsible for determining the group of debaters who will compete in the Australian Schools Debating Championships.
Debaters from the Northern Territory come predominately from Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston. Competitions are conducted in the evenings over a period of months, and volunteer coaches train debaters to enhance their skills and improve upon their general knowledge. The best debaters from the competition are selected for the territory team to compete with the 7 other states and territories in the school championships.
A team of 4 debaters and 2 reserves are usually selected by the coaches. Based on the Australasian Debating Format, the competitions fashion a 3-3 style debate.
