[edit] Promotion and relegation

In the fourth season of the Northern Premier League none of the teams were put forward for election to the Football League nor automatically promoted. Conversely, none of the sides were relegated, but Chorley and Kirkby Town left the League at the end of the season. They were replaced by newly-admitted Mossley and Barrow, who had just left Football League Division Four.
