[edit] League History
[edit] 1950s
- The league begins for the 1956-57 school year with Anthony Wayne, Eastwood, Elmwood, Genoa, Holland, Lake, Maumee, Perrysburg, Port Clinton, and Rossford as its charter members.
- Holland High School becomes Springfield High School in 1959.
[edit] 1960s
- Port Clinton leaves to join the Great Lakes League after winning three football titles in 1957, 1960, and 1962.
[edit] 1970s
- For the 1972-73 school year, Eastwood, Elmwood, and Genoa leave to help form the Suburban Lakes League (SLL), leaving 6 members for a while.
- Bowling Green joins, (Total: 7) and a few years later...
- Southview joins in 1976 after Sylvania High School splits (bringing league total to 8 with Anthony Wayne, Bowling Green, Lake, Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford, Southview, & Springfield)
[edit] 1980s
- League membership remains consistent
[edit] 1990s
- For the 1996-97 school year, Lake leaves to join the SLL, and is instantly replaced by Northview, who leaves the former Great Lakes League.
- Around 1999, Rossford flirted with the possibility of joining the SLL to give that league an even 10 members, and to compete against schools closer to their size. Oregon Clay and Napoleon were considered as replacements, but no changes were made when Northwood left the SLL to join the TAAC, leaving the SLL with an even 8 members.
[edit] 2000s
- In 2008, Rossford sent a letter of interest to be considered as the replacement for Lakota in the SLL, who will be leaving for the MAL in 2009. The SLL could not get a 6-out-of-7 vote to accept Rossford, ensuring they would remain a member of the NLL for at least a few more years.
