The Northern Football League (formerly known as the Diamond Valley Football League) is an Australian rules football competition based in the Diamond Valley region of suburban Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The league changed its name on the 1st May 2007. The League was founded in 1922 originally having 7 clubs, 4 of whom are still participating. In 1941 the league went into recession for 5 years as a result of WW2 play reconmencing in 1946. After the war the league continued to grow. In 1981 it was spilt into two divisions. In 2008 the NFL added an open age Netball comptetion.

The entire DVFL board resigned over the summer of 2006/2007 and was replaced by officials from AFL Victoria.
