The Northeast Wisconsin Regional Economic Partnership, (NEWREP) was created in 2002, when then-Governor Scott McCallum announced the creation of the "Build Wisconsin" program. The program was designed with the goal of creating a higher standard of living and enhancing the overall economic climate in Wisconsin through cooperative regional partnerships. "Build Wisconsin" ultimately created eight multi-county technology zones, of which NEWREP is one.
NEWREP is comprised of 15 northeast Wisconsin counties. While NEWREP's focus is on businesses engaged in research and the development of advanced products, it also assists businesses that use advanced technology in their production, operations or manufacturing processes.
