Northamptonshire Grammar School, established 1989, in a Co-ed Independent Grammar School, for ages 3 - 18. It is the best day school in Northamptonshire, judged on exam results. Situated North of Northampton, in the Village of Pitsford, NGS has grown immensely. Going from a 47 pupil school, with 4 buildings, it has expanded. With a recent science building, The Sunley Building, and a new Library, not to mention the new Appeal for a new Theater. The school is currently teaching approx. 400 students. The current headmaster is Noel Toone II.
[edit] History: Patrons and Trustees, 1987
In June 1987 a meeting was held, the main consideration of this was the need of a boys Independent day School in Northampton. Parents needed the right to choose the way in which their children were educated. So, The Northamptonshire Grammar school trust LTD came into being. With Patrons Christian Lady Hesketh O.B.E., DL, and Sir Hereward Wake BART, MC, DL, and The Trustees, The Northamptonshire Grammar school trust LTD began the process of buying The Holy Family of Nazareth Convent School, Pitsford. With Pitsford Hall purchased, they sent out an appeal, for £500,000 to begin their school. Northamptonshire Grammar School opened on Wednesday 6th, September 1989. With just 47 pupils and 9 members of staff, NGS was born. In 1999 it became a mixed school, accepting pupils from ages 3 to 18.
[edit] Queen Mother Visit
On June 30th, 1992 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother visited Northamptonshire Grammar School, and laid the Foundation stone of the Michael Robinson Memorial Library. A stroll down memory lane for The Queen Mother, as she regularly visited Pitsford Hall, in the twenties and thirties as a guest of Captain Drummond, Master of The Pytchley Hunt. Indeed, some of those living in the village can remember the Royal Nanny taking the Princesses Elizabeth and Margret for walks in the village. In honour of the visit, the school now awards the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship.
[edit] Baroness Thatcher Visit
In 1998 Northamptonshire Grammar School played host to Ex-Prime minister Baroness Margret Thatcher, who visited NGS to open the new science and technology building.
