[edit] History
North Warwickshire College began in 1910 as the 'Nuneaton Technical College' and the 'Nuneaton School of Art' respectively, with the Technical College catering mainly to mining students. In 1913 the college moved to a larger building containing a laboratory, lecture room, drawing room and handicraft room only for the college to close between 1914 and 1919 due to the First World War. When the college reopened after the war it changed its structure to include general education courses, the college grew further and relocated again in 1923 and became the 'County Mining and Technical School' in 1932. The size and scope of the education provided continued to grow over the next two decades and in 1952 the Art School was amalgamated with the college to form the 'Nuneaton Technical College and School of Art' and in 1958 the main campus was relocated to Hinckley Road where it remains.
The Technical College combined with Hinckley College to become North Warwickshire and Hinckley College in 1996. On December 2nd 2007 a fire broke out on the North Warwickshire site, starting in the first floor of the gymnasium and rapidly spreading to the outbuildings. The fire had destroyed around ten percent of the college building by the time it was extinguished.[1]

[edit] Links to Other Schools & Colleges
[edit] King Edward VI College
The college maintains close links with a number of local educational establishments, most notably King Edward VI College. Originally the links between the colleges allowed for students to undertake courses which required them to commute between both colleges, however changes to further education in the early 1990s meant that this was no longer possible and ties between the colleges were severed. The introduction of Curriculum 2000, offering more flexible AS and A2 level options, and the recent need for further college expansion has led to renewed links between the colleges once again allowing students to commute between the two colleges.
[edit] The New College
A plan for a 'new college' which amalgamates King Edward VI College and the North Warwickshire site of North Warwickshire & Hinckley College under a joint campus were announced in late 2007. The initial plan was for a new campus located in the town centre replacing several existing developments. A public consultation on the plans held in early 2008 found 47% of those taking part against the plans and 46% in favour. Ultimately the plan was rejected by Warwickshire County Council in May 2008 [2][3]. The colleges are now considering expanding on the Hinckley Road site of the North Warwickshire and Hinckley College.
