North Wales was an electoral constituency of the European Parliament which roughly covered the unofficial region of North Wales—in the nation of Wales in the United Kingdom—from 1979 until 1999.
Prior to its uniform adoption of proportional representation for elections to the European Parliament in 1999, the United Kingdom used the plurality voting system for European elections in England, Scotland and Wales. The European Parliament constituencies used under that system were smaller than the later regional constituencies and only had one member of the European Parliament each. The constituency of North Wales was one of them.
When the constituency was created in 1979, it consisted of the Westminster Parliament constituencies of Anglesey, Caernarvon, Conway, Denbigh, Flint East, Flint West, Merioneth, Montgomery, Wrexham,[1] although this was not true for the whole of its existence.
