North Tyneside General Hospital is part of Northumbria NHS Trust. It is closely associated with Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington. It is the main hospital serving the North Tyneside area. It is located on Rake Lane, near New York in North Shields.

It was built between 1984 and 1996 with gradual extensions, and replaced several other hospitals such as Tynemouth Infirmary and Preston Hospital. It serves a population of about 250,000 in North Tyneside and Northumberland.

Patients requiring Urology and ENT specialities are generally referred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
